Dr Rebecca Dawson (Boris)
Senior Medical Writer | Publications Lead – Medical WritingI have a PhD and a Masters in neuroscience, with a focus on cellular regeneration strategies for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. After graduating, I worked as a post-doctoral researcher for 4 years, working in cancer metabolism and tumour microenvironment in pancreatic cancer. As much as I loved the science, I eventually had to admit that I just didn’t have the magic, nor the pipetting skills, to be able to produce perfectly loaded Western blots. I knew that I wanted to stay in science but it took a bit of self-reflection and figuring out the things that I was good at before I set my sights on a career in med-comms. Almost 4 years later, I’m still here and still loving the opportunities for continual growth and development that med-comms brings.
I’ve had the chance to work on COPD, asthma, schizophrenia, depression, and borderline personality disorder so it’s safe to say that my research interests are pretty diverse, and I enjoy the challenge of gettng stuck into a new therapy area and immersing myself in the literature. Pubs are my thing… manuscripts, posters, abstracts, PLS… ! I’ve worked on several high-profile pubs accounts in the past, covering preclinical studies all the way through to Phase III trials, with review articles, graphical abstracts, and an avalanche of congress work thrown in for good measure. I love seeing the data come to life, and being part of the process of forming a story that has the potential to influence real-life decision making in healthcare. I’m also passionate about patient/caregiver education and involvement in research as well as the publica on process and I’m excited to see how the publications industry continues to develop over the next few years to be more inclusive of the patient voice.
Away from my desk, I’m just trying to live my best mum-life spending as much time as I can with my family, preferably in the Great Outdoors! Special interests in cooking, gin, and impromptu rap battles with my colleagues… Yup, we know how to live here at Word Monster HQ!
